For the first time in the Los Angeles area 09/06/2004 - 09/12/2004 Workshop and Classes with Mariana Galassi

Mariana Galassi was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she started dancing tango more than seven years ago. Her background includes modern dance, ballet and contact improvisation. As a member of the "Ana Kamien Dance Company," she performed in Buenos Aires' most notable theatres. In 2000 she moved to New york City where she currently teaches argentine tango at Sandra Cameron Dance Center. Still based in New York, she continues to travel throughout the United States performing at different venues and giving workshops. She has also participated as a dancer and teacher in several tango festivals including the prestigious International Congress of Argentine Tango (CITA, Buenos Aires 2004) and the Boston Tango Festival (April 2004). Currently she is a member of the dance company "Fusiontango," which blends modern dance with tango.

This is Mariannas first visit to Los Angeles, do not miss the opportunity to study with this beautiful dancer.

Saturday, September 11th 2004 at the Pacific Arts Center 10469 Santa Monica Blvd. Los Angeles CA 90025 310 481 9966 (between Westwood and Beverly Glen)
Park at the Nextel parking lot, two doors to the East. Enter through side gate.
2:00-3:30PM Follower’s technique
The workshop is geared to solve the most common problems familiar to all followers. Usually these technical difficulties interfere with the real pleasure and joy of dance: experiencing our emotions. By studying the nature of our movements in this class, we will discover how to make them more efficient and precise. Instead of working on adornments , we are going to learn:
* how to walk with confidence and grace
* how to move freely in space
* how to take longer steps when walking, without looking like a duck
* how to do a back ocho without falling backwards
* how to make fast turns without feeling you are racing to catch up with your partner
* how to execute a beautiful sharp boleo without losing your balance
* how to twist the body like a corkscrew, using natural contraposition, yet to still maintain balance and move with long beautiful steps!!
* how to do a gancho with freedom and without feeling that you have a wooden leg
*Learn to precisely time and position sacadas, to maintain a seamless connection to your partner.

3:30-5:00pm This class focuses on the dynamic of the movement within a combination of steps. In an improvisational dance, like tango, we need to understand the concepts that allow us to freely create all kinds of graceful and precise patterns. In this class we will work with sequences that include sacadas, voleos and barridas, in order to learn how to make them effortless and fluid. To do this we will study:
*The energy and direction of the lead
*The reception of the lead from the follower and its transformation into movement
*The structure in space (architecture of the movement)
*The structure in time (timing of the movement)
Prices: $20/One class-Great Price!
$35/Two classes with advance payment
Privates lessons are also available.

April 19th - 26th, 2004
Caleb Cain Marcus and Ting Chin, of Liquidtango, are at the forerfont of a new generation of Argentine Tango dancers. Their innovative style pushes the traditional boundaries of tango and bestows upon it a freedom expressed through modern interpretation. Their teaching embodies a precise understanding of the underlying structure of tango, in the system developed by Gustavo Naveira and Fabian Salas, Which they can clearly convay to their students. Knowledge of this underlying structure enables their students to become dancers who can in turn contribute to the evolution of tango. Caleb and Ting are known, as teachers and performers, for their progressive thought, elegant movement, and dynamic ability. They have taught in many cities in the U.S. and upon arriving in Los Angeles they will have just finished teaching workshops at the San Francisco area after a starring role in the show "Tangomania" in New York's Thalia theatre. Argentine Tango Workshops With Jaimes Friedgen And Rachel Smith

"Jaimes and Rachel give more than steps and patterns. They teach the real fundamentals (accent on fun!): how to be in touch with yourself, the music, and your partner, and how to create from the ground up a heartfelt, intelligent, and creative tango. They break down the most complex aspects of tango making them accessible to all, and remind the advanced of the purity and care necessary for a single step. Besides being one of the most brilliant dance couples on the west coast they are truly great teachers who infuse their classes with warmth, enthusiasm, and creativity, respecting and inspiring many different styles of learning and abilities." Greg Rolnick, Seattle
